And then, for three long, oppressively - sweet - smelling days, we did just that. Twenty artists recreated Instagram photos using mountains of cookies and pounds of creme. One hundred fifty sculptures later, Oreo went from 0 followers to nearly 85,000 and became the fastest growing account in Instagram’s (notably short) history. In the three minutes after its Super Bowl debut, OREO beat out Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and unicorn_wishgirrrl_99 to become the fastest growing account in Instagram’s (very short) history. With 33 photos on Instagram’s Explore tab, the number one spot on reddit’s front page and a barrage of media coverage, here’s the story of how a 100-year-old cookie became the hottest thing going on Instagram.
