QB1: Beyond the Lights

Entered in Sports

Objectives

The objective of "QB1: Beyond the Lights" was to shine a light on the inner workings of high-stakes high school football. Viewers are taken inside the games, the lives and minds of young athletes as they compete for the pride of victory while striving for recognition from the biggest colleges and universities in the country. Unlike the fictional series, "Friday Night Lights," everything in QB1 is real.

Strategy and Execution

The strategy behind "QB1: Beyond the Lights" was to provide viewers never-before-seen access to the world of high school football. Most fans only get a view from the stands, but QB1 gives the audience the complete view of how important playing on Friday night is for student athletes, families and communities. Unlike college football, where players are trying to get to the pros, or the NFL where players compete for money, QB1 showcases raw talent playing the game purely for the pride of victory and the joy of playing football. Through insightful interviews and exclusive access, QB1 has become a must-watch digital video series.

Results

"QB1: Beyond the Lights" has been one of the most successful franchises in Verizon's go90 history. The series has cultivated a strong fan base and shown that it can discover real talent at the high school level. One of QB1 Season 1's stars, Jake Fromm, led the University of Georgia to the National Championship this year as a freshman, and viewers are able to go back to the high school journey that led up to his winning season.
