Objective

What started as a fan meetup for streamers King Gothalion & Professor Broman has grown to encompass numerous content creators from multiple gaming communities. GuardianCon is now a major yearly gaming / charity convention.

Our primary objective from the outset is to unify content creators, influencers and a growing gaming community to make a change for good in the world. In this case, raising awareness and as much funding as possible for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - a leading children's hospital pioneering research and treatments for kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Selling out the venue itself was of course another goal which served our primary objective.

It is also a chance for content creators, influencers, game devs, and other organization to connect with each other under one great common cause.

Strategy

Marketing:

As successful Twitch streamers, the founders of GuardianCon combined had a pre-existing and large, loyal audience in gaming. Over 500K followers on Twitter, and over 1.4 Million on Twitch. This along with our extended reach and network in the tens of millions would be our primary marketing avenues.

Pre-convention Marathon Stream:

A 24/7 week long Twitch stream relay. 43 highly influential content creators would promote and stream a section of this marathon to encourage participation and donations to St. Jude from their own audiences. This would be the primary fund raising event.

The Convention:

We wanted to fill the convention center (5000 attendee venue) as ticket sales would fund the event and provide a fun and engaging place for content creators, influencers, game devs, and other organizations to connect and donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We would promote ticket sales via Twitter, Twitch channels and the Marathon Stream.

Results

Pre-convention Marathon Stream:

5 million views on Twitch over 7 days

25,000+ unique donations

$1.27m raised for St. Jude


Convention:

Over 1 million views on Twitch (The event was streamed live)

5300+ attendees over 2 days showing

51% growth from the previous year

Total raised for St. Jude: $1.35 million - more than doubling the previous years fund raising.
